Eighty years ago, Gretsch completed sketch number 1382 in the Arzberg model book with a final pencil stroke: it was the definitive rejection of impractical, ornate everyday tableware and at the same time a clear “yes” to functional, aesthetically beautiful everyday porcelain—the “good design” for every day. The “1382” shape is one of the absolute classics of modern industrial design and, as one of the very few porcelain designs, can even be found in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
