The mandarin tree was introduced from Indochina in 1828 and has been thriving on the western coasts of the Mediterranean ever since. At the Strait of Messina, it shapes the Calabrian landscape without a hint of bitterness. The tenderness of the mandarin goes back to antiquity, when its essential oils created an elegant and fragrant atmosphere.
